If a tooth has been broken damaged due to decay, disease or trauma, your dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there’s too much damage tooth may need to be extracted.
There are two types of tooth extraction procedures, depending on the condition of the tooth:
1. Simple extraction
2. Surgical extraction
- Simple extraction–. In simple extraction, the dentist loosens the tooth with elevator instrument. Then forceps are used to remove the tooth.
- Surgical extraction– this procedure is more complex, if a tooth may have broken off at the gum line or has not erupted in the mouth then this procedure is used. The surgeon will make a small incision into your gum to remove the impacted wisdom tooth or broken tooth.
